A foundation anchors a structure to the ground. Plus, it transfers the weight of the walls and frame to the ground. As a result, a sturdy, solid foundation should keep the building from tipping over or collapsing.

A concrete foundation not only secures a building to the ground, but also provides insulation from the cold, blocks moisture away from the interior, and resists ground movement. To ensure it lasts, our concrete foundation contractors in San Antonio, devote their attention to many “small” details from the quality of the soil on which the building will sit to the proper curing and sealing the concrete as it dries to protect the foundation from cracks and crumbling.

Types of Concrete Foundation Service We offer

At Pura Vida, we offer more than the traditional concrete driveway that’s most common in residential and commercial properties. We customize designs and offer unique finishes that complement your building’s aesthetic.

Slab on Grade Foundations

This type of foundation tends to be the most popular in warm weather regions and is one of our specialties. Concrete is poured all at once onto a prepared plot of land for the construction of slabs on grade foundations. The perimeter and a grid of trenches are excavated prior to pouring the concrete. The 4 to the 6-inch slab is reinforced by a steel rebar and is surrounded by 20- to 30-inch-thick perimeter beams.

Post Tension Slab

The post-tension slab is one of the cost-effective options. It resists cracking as it spreads its load over a wider with the weight being partially carried by the slab itself. This type has a network of steel cables running through it that have withstood 33,000 pounds of pressure. As a result, the tensions strengthen the slab and foundation to where there’s less cracking.

Pier and Beam Foundation

Alternative to the basement or slab foundation is pier and beam foundations. This type of concrete foundation allows for a crawl space underneath the house which gives easier access to plumbing and electrical lines. The pier and beam also elevate the structure so there’s less chance of flooding during a storm. Plus, it’s less expensive to repair than a slab foundation.

Tilt Wall Construction

We also specialize in tilt wall construction, one of the strongest structural types you’ll ever find. Once the concrete foundation is poured and sealed, the walls are constructed by pouring concrete into rebar molds where it’s smoothed out. After drying completely, the molds are broken off, and a crane lifts the walls to their upright positions. They are then supported by buttresses until the roof supports are built.

The Foundation Construction Process

The crew at Pura Vida follows an intricate process on all new constructions from the ground up which is why we guarantee a solid, long-standing concrete foundation. The following outlines our procedures:

Foundation Construction Process

Ground Breaking and Excavation

After completing grading and testing the lot, we dig trenches for the footings and level the area by setting batter boards.

Footings Dug, Rebar Set & Inspection

From there, we dig the footings and install the rebar. Upon a clear inspection, we then pour the footings by “boom pumping” the concrete.

Polysteel Installation

Afterward, we install the Polysteel stem wall forms, which insulate the building’s interior from the cold, and set the locations for the plumbing.

Radiant heat, Plumbing Pipes & Concrete Pouring

Next, the area is prepared for the slab. The plumbing pipes are “stumped up” (installed) in their precise locations. The plastic tubing for radiant heat is also put into place, and the concrete is then “boom pumped” into the area.

Clean Up and Block Wall Installation

After another thorough inspection, the crew completes the clean-up process, installs the block walls, and prepares the area for the framing team.
